Conceptualised in LA in response to Mitt Romney’s statements on the gender pay gap, this group show platforms female-identifying artists. Co-curated by Pia Pack, whose work examines ideas surrounding domestic life.
Binder of Women is an independent, artist-led platform
for contemporary artists to directly share and sell their work.
Binder of Women was conceptualised in Los Angeles in 2017 by Hilary Pecis and brought to London
in 2022 by Pia Pack. The name derives from the 2012 US presidential debate between Mitt Romney
& Barack Obama. Romney boasted, when discussing pay equity, that he had “binders full of women”
that he utilised to hire qualified female candidates. The phrase instead alienated women voters and
became a viral meme. Equal gender representation and pay is a long standing issue in the art world
and the Binder of Women seeks to address this through supportive collaboration as well creating a
platform for contemporary female identifying artists to directly share their work.
