The exhibition will host a closing celebration on Saturday 05 October accompanied by an artist talk and book signing event where James will speak about the intention of materiality, and embracing ‘imperfection’ as process and practice.
Limited edition copies of his self-published monograph, “Fragrant River, Flowing Field” will be available for purchase and personalisation while copies last.

Exhibition Statement
'Floating Weeds' by James John Midwinter is a collection of handmade photographic works, exploring imperfection, impermanence and small observations photographed between Kagawa and Nagano, Japan.
"They're more a representation of experience than of place, they're a response to the connections between nature, love, intimacy, the architecture, the spirituality and the atmosphere we experienced on the trip."
'These materials are fragile, and a delicacy has been intentionally embraced. The gelatin is faded and bubbled in places, torn edges have been gently coaxed back together with nori paste, repairs are made with donor prints, and the final works are not hidden away behind glass, but left exposed to time.

Artist Biography
James John Midwinter is a British artist working in Cornwall. His practice is a continual exploration of personal experience, materials and printing techniques.
Each artwork is a response to small moments he observes, in relationships, life and nature. Everyday, perhaps mundane and overlooked details, are given reverence, and are brought together to form something transcendent, disconnected from time.
"The little things that receive the least, but maybe deserve the most prestige."
He experiments with analogue printing in many forms, from cyanotypes and darkroom prints to photopolymer etchings, screen prints, and hand-brushed silver gelatin on washi paper. His aim is to create works that present a direct physical connection to the artist's hand and labour, alongside an emotional connection to the moments presented.
