This Level 4 Pottery Throwing Course is designed for confident potters ready to expand their skillset and push creative boundaries. As the natural progression from Level 3, this advanced course explores new techniques and refined methods of making on the wheel. Over six structured weeks, you'll create a series of sophisticated forms while deepening your understanding of functional and aesthetic ceramics. Two weeks after the main course ends, we’ll reunite for a dedicated glazing session to finish and decorate your fired work.

Course Highlights Expand your wheel-throwing techniques with advanced forms and large-scale builds Learn to throw off the hump for efficient production of smaller pieces and lids Explore combining coiling with wheel techniques to create taller, more complex vessels Master lidded jars and multi-part forms

Each week builds on the last, combining hands-on making with thoughtful refinement and technical growth: Week 1: Two-Part Pottery – Learn how to create large-scale forms by throwing in two sections and joining them seamlessly. Week 2: Trimming & Handle Pulling Refresher – Refine your week 1 forms and revisit essential handle techniques to sharpen your skills. Week 3: Throwing Off the Hump – Master this efficient method for creating multiple small forms from one centered mound of clay. Week 4: Lidded Jars & Lid-Making from the Hump – Trim previous work and explore the structure and style of lidded vessels, including making lids using the hump technique. Week 5: Throwing with Coils – Combine wheel throwing with coil-building to gain height, volume, and dimension in large-scale pottery. Week 6: Final Trimming & Personal Development – Trim and refine final pieces, add finishing touches, and revisit any techniques or areas where you’d like more focused practice. Week 7: Glazing Session (Held 2 Weeks Later) – Join us for a dedicated glazing session to decorate and complete your fired work, experimenting with surface finishes and techniques.

This course emphasises both technical refinement and creative exploration, with plenty of guidance, demos, and individual feedback. You'll leave with a deeper understanding of advanced throwing and a unique collection of finished work.
