Sir Don McCullin turns 90 this year, and the Holburne marks the moment with Broken Beauty, the first UK exhibition of his newest work. Best known for his uncompromising photographs of conflict, poverty and post-war Britain, McCullin has spent the last decade exploring a quieter, more reflective space: the world of ancient Roman sculpture. These striking black-and-white studies, made in museums across the globe, reveal a different side to his eye — tender, attentive and deeply human. The statues appear fractured, weathered and luminous, inviting viewers to consider how beauty and damage can coexist. Never before shown in the UK, this collection offers a rare chance to witness a master photographer in a new light.
