This House presents an exhibition of paintings and sculpture by their Winter artist-in-residence Isabelle Carr.
In Dorset where Isabelle grew up, flint is commonly found in the fields, surfacing and resettling with the cycles of the land.
‘FLINT’ explores the stone as both substance and structure, tracing its formation from the fossilised remains of Cretaceous sponges through long processes of decay, seepage and replacement. The work draws parallels between flint’s cellular formations and contemporary systems of circulation - conduits, pathways, and channels that similarly guide movement.
In this work tensions between surface and depth emerge through layered, partially obscured, and clustered forms, reflecting how the stone records accumulation, pressure, and continual transformation within the landscape.
