We all know that engineering has shaped our world – but how many of the great engineers can you name? This February half-term, computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee, NASA legend Mary Jackson and – of course – Bristol’s favourite adopted son, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, are waiting for you to climb aboard the SS Great Britain and discover their hidden powers.

We have so many phenomenal women and men to thank for their epic efforts. Their ideas and inventions have propelled society forward, leading humans to explore space, boost global migration, and make our everyday lives easier to manage.

**Hidden Heroes ** Can you find all six superhero engineers hiding around the ship? Grab an activity sheet from the Visitor Centre and embark on a quest to track down the Hidden Heroes. Learn about their incredible inventions and the amazing ways they changed our world – from the internet to space exploration, to revolutionary ships and computer programming!

Dates: Sat 14 Feb – Sun 22 Mar 2026 Times: In line with usual opening hours

Crazy Capes & Marvellous Masks Ready to become a superhero yourself? Join our Crazy Capes & Marvellous Masks craft workshop in the First-Class Dining Saloon, where little heroes can design their very own cape. Bring an old pillowcase (or buy one for £3!*), grab some fabric pens and let your imagination run wild! Then race around the ship with your cape flying behind you – every superhero’s story must start somewhere, why not make it the SS Great Britain?

*Subject to availability. We advise bringing your own to ensure you can take part in the workshop.

Dates: Sat 14 Feb, Mon 16 Feb – Sat 21 Feb, Saturday 28 Feb, 7 Mar, 14 Mar & 21 Mar Times: 10.00am-12.00pm and 1.00pm-3.00pm
