Tucked inside Bristol Aquarium, the Bristol Megascreen is the city’s cinematic leviathan. Once the IMAX, it now boasts a 19x15m screen—the second largest in the South West—paired with a Christie projector and Dolby surround sound that makes your seat vibrate like a subwoofer in a boy racer’s Vauxhall Corsa.
The 300-seat auditorium has been revived by Bristol’s film obsessives, transforming it into a haven for cult screenings, indie festivals, and the occasional corporate PowerPoint with delusions of grandeur. It’s the spiritual home of the Forbidden Worlds Film Festival and a regular haunt for 20th Century Flicks and South West Silents.
It’s not your standard multiplex. There’s no popcorn-scented carpet or overpriced Tango Ice Blasts. Instead, you’ll find a screen big enough to house a megalodon and a sound system that could wake the Kraken.
For those who prefer their cinema with a side of subculture, the Megascreen is where Bristol’s film scene goes large.
