Enhance your pottery skills in our 6 week throwing course. This follow on course is designed for those looking to build upon your knowledge and practice some new techniques to elevate your work. This course requires you to have a basic knowledge of wheel throwing, if you are a beginner, please consider our Level 1 Throwing Course.
Over six engaging sessions, we’ll guide you through making complex forms, finishing techniques, covering the essentials of trimming, pulling and attaching handles, studio practice . This course is designed to add new levels to your throwing practice and to revise any areas you're unsure of to boost your making skills.
Rather than focusing on creating specific items, this course emphasises material knowledge and experimentation to help you build robust skills. Week 1: Throwing refresher. A brief reminder of centering, pulling up and wiring off pots. Week 2: An introduction to trimming. Week 3: Experiment with tools and complex shapes as well as continuing building up you body of work. Week 4: An introduction to handle pulling and self directed practice. Week 5: Throwing lemon squeezers and enclosed forms Week 6: Final week finishing projects and focusing on any areas you wish revise.
Classes are held once a week at the same time for six consecutive weeks, allowing you to steadily build and refine your skills. Build up your own bespoke body of work, ready for a glazing workshop (included in this ticket). The glazing course (week 7) will be held after 2 weeks to ensure time for your work to be fired.
In between sessions, you are invited to practice your skills at our Friday night open access sessions. Tickets are £20 and include all clay- the outcomes can be used during course time.
