The Saxon Church
Share
The Saxon Church of St. Laurence in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, is a remarkable example of early Anglo-Saxon architecture, thought to date back to the 8th or 9th century. Unusually well-preserved for a building of its time, it features distinctive tall, narrow proportions and intricate stone carvings that showcase early medieval craftsmanship. Hidden for centuries within other structures, the church was rediscovered in the 19th century and has since been admired for its historical significance and architectural simplicity. Today, it stands as one of England's most intact and authentic examples of pre-Norman ecclesiastical design.
