It is an honour to re-invite friend-of-the-Grapes Jim Godfrey to perform as part of the 'returners' series at The Living Room. Having recently recorded his new album, it will be wonderful to have Bath based musician Jim, back upstairs at The Grapes. PS, there may be some special guests involved...

Jim Godfrey is a pianist, composer and producer, based in Bath. He trained at the Berkeley Jazz school in California, and has an MA Distinction in Sound Production from Bath Spa University.

A multi-instrumentalist, Jim’s playing is influenced by romantic and modernist classical composers, as well as contemporary electronica, ambient, jazz and progressive rock. His first album San Francisco, was inspired by 5 years living and studying in Northern California, and in 2023 he released an improvised album: Deconstructed Piano Works vol 1, recorded and produced in collaboration with Bristol-based producer and sound artist, Ben Hamid.

In late 2023 he released two piano EPs, returning to the theme of place, and inspired by his time in Japan in Spring. The Kyoto Laughing Party EP1 and EP2 contain eight simple pieces, blending felt pianos with analogue synths and Japanese field recordings to create a beautiful and evocative soundscape.

He is currently working on his second album - and will be playing many new pieces from this album in his live shows. In addition to his own work, Jim draws on decades of live playing, including as a pianist with Billy Bragg, and most recently with Matt Owens - co-founder of Noah and The Whale.
