James Kirk helped shape the sound of indie music as a founding member of Glaswegian legends Orange Juice, his jangly, melodic guitar playing a key part of the influential ‘Sound of Young Scotland’. He also penned the band’s gloriously jangly ‘Felicity’, and recently reunited with Edwyn Collins and original drummer Steven Daly for Collins’ farewell shows in Glasgow and London.
Now Kirk has joined forces with Warren McIntyre of melodic folk-rockers Starry Skies to form Warren James. The partnership began after Kirk was invited to play Glasgow Goes Pop in 2022 and quickly developed into a prolific songwriting collaboration.
Their first release arrived in summer 2025 with limited-edition double A-side Miss Green Tea / Costa del Culzean, released to coincide with the fourth Glasgow Goes Pop festival.
Live, Kirk and McIntyre are joined by Hal on bass and Michael of V-Twin/1990s on drums, bringing together decades of Scottish indie pedigree with a fresh batch of melodic guitar pop.
