Lichen (detail) reclaimed materials. SAW:NGS site-specific commission for Abundance Garden Trail 2013

Inspired by a wander in the beautiful surrounding gardens gathering found natural debris, followed by initial sketches as a starting point, you will be guided to create a sculptural artwork. Other recycled and found materials such as wood, plant debris, wire, textiles, cardboard, metal and miscellaneous components will be provided. Using a range of 3-d skills, we will explore assemblage sculpture, constructing rather than carving away, focusing on elements such as line, form, colour, texture, spatial relationships and the concept of transformation. The process will be explorative - the aim is to experiment with imaginative ideas, processes and sustainable materials (organic and industrial). You will be encouraged to be resourceful and improvisational, gain confidence, and complete a small sculpture for indoors or outside. Homemade lunch and refreshments are provided.
